September Update: Summer Highlights and what’s next

Islay trips and notable distilleries

It’s been a fun summer. Several tours to Arran, Campbeltown and Islay took place, including during the Festivals at the two latter. I am fortunate that all my guests have been such a pleasure to take to the West Coast. I am very grateful for the reviews they have left me on Google and in Tripadvisor: as this has been my first season, the feedback is really important. It really helps to spread the word.

The weather has generally been great. The distilleries have been providing some terrific new releases, with the new Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine a particular highlight. It is surprisingly cheap for a highly collectable and drinkable 14yo. You know autumn is on the way when Springbank wheel out their 18yo and 21yo. However, getting your hands on one can be tough.

What’s next in 2026?

Two more Westie Whisky Tours are due to go out over the next four weeks. This includes a first trip this year to Nc’Nean and Tobermory. The tour combines whisky with scenery and exploration. Additionally, it includes walking and a bird-watching trip to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles. There are also prehistoric sites and breweries thrown in for good measure! Anything goes on a Westie Whisky Tour!

If you’re looking to squeeze something in this year, I have space from Monday 12 to Friday 23 October. However, that will be it for 2026. I’ve recently been asked to go to India to do music examining for five weeks from late October to early December.

2027 Tours and Availability

I’ve had many enquiries regarding tours next year. Several of the more popular slots have already gone. If you’re thinking about getting in touch, don’t leave it too late. I have secured accommodation for the Campbeltown Malts Festival, which sleeps up to six. Feis Ile is trickier, but I can hopefully pull some strings, although accommodation is not cheap. Islay remains a popular destination, and has been a constant feature in every tour this season. Please contact me promptly if you are interested in either.
